Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has asked all Local Government Chairmen to pay their workers a minimum wage of N85,000. This means that no local government worker should earn less than this amount.
The governor gave this order during a meeting with the LGA Chairmen. He said that workers deserve better pay because the cost of living is getting higher every day. He also told the chairmen to make sure the new salary is paid without delay.
The increase in salary is a big relief for local government workers. Here are some reasons why this is a good decision:
1. Better Life for Workers – Prices of food, rent, and transport have gone up. A higher salary will help workers take care of their families.
2. More Money in the Economy – When workers earn more, they will spend more. This will help businesses in Rivers State grow.
3. Motivation to Work Harder – When workers are paid well, they will be happier and work better. This will improve government services.
Some people are asking if the Local Government Councils have enough money to pay this new wage. The governor has assured everyone that there is enough money if it is managed well. He has also warned against corruption and wasteful spending.
