The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has destroyed fake drugs, expired food, and other bad products worth ₦4.7 billion in the South-South region of Nigeria.
This action helps protect people from dangerous products that can cause sickness or even death.
NAFDAC destroyed many harmful products, including:
Fake and expired medicines – such as antibiotics, painkillers, and malaria drugs.
Bad processed food – food that is unsafe to eat.
Poor-quality cosmetics and medical devices – products that can harm the skin or body.
Fake drinks – beverages made with dangerous ingredients.
These products were taken from markets, shops, and businesses that sell unsafe goods. Some were also given to NAFDAC by responsible businesses.
Fake and expired products are very dangerous. They can:
Make sickness worse – bad medicine does not work properly.
Cause serious health problems – some fake drugs and food contain harmful chemicals.
Lead to death – when people use fake medicine instead of real treatment.
By destroying these products, NAFDAC is making sure Nigerians stay safe and healthy.
NAFDAC is working hard to stop fake and expired products from entering the market. They do this by:
Checking shops and markets regularly.
Teaching people about the dangers of fake products.
Making strict rules for businesses.
Working with the police to catch those selling fake goods.
The head of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, has asked everyone to be careful and report fake products when they see them.
