A group known as the Nigeria Renaissance Group (NRG) has accused Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of diverting N13.4 billion from government funds. The group is demanding that the money be returned immediately. They claim the missing funds were meant for development projects that would benefit the people of Kogi State.
The NRG alleges that the money was taken under Governor Ododo’s administration and was not used for the welfare of Kogi citizens. They argue that this is a huge sum of money that could have been used for roads, hospitals, schools, and other important projects.
This is not the first time the Kogi State government has been accused of misusing public funds.
In December 2024, reports claimed that the government spent N400 million on building an "Intruders Gate," which many people said was an unnecessary project.
In February 2025, it was revealed that the government planned to spend N3 billion on renovating the state government house. This was surprising because the government had already spent N2.29 billion on similar renovations the previous year.
Many citizens and civil society groups believe the government should focus on solving real problems instead of spending money on questionable projects. They argue that people in Kogi State need better healthcare, education, roads, and electricity, not expensive government renovations and unnecessary gates.
The NRG is demanding that Governor Ododo refund the N13.4 billion immediately and explain how the money was used.
